The expenditure incurred to date on the transfer of the State laboratories from Abbotstown to Backweston is €61,129,673.79. This breaks down as €27,856,913.94 on the State Laboratory and €33,272,759.85 on the Department of Agriculture and Food laboratories.
The estimated cost, including siteworks, construction costs, design team fees, VAT, inflation, etc., of building new laboratories at Backweston is €199.3 million. This breaks down to €78.7 million for the State Laboratory and €120.6 million for the Department of Agriculture and Food laboratories.
It is expected that practical completion of the State Laboratory will be achieved by April 2004 with practical completion of the Department of Agriculture and Food laboratories following by early 2005.
