Vol. 569 No. 5

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before proceeding to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with two notices under Standing Order 31. I will call on the Deputies to raise the matters in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following matter of national importance, namely, the urgent need, in light of the decision by Glanbia plc. not to proceed with the reconstruction of its plant at Roosky, County Roscommon with the loss of 340 jobs, for the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment and the Minister for Agriculture and Food to clarify their roles in the reconstruction of the plant at Roosky. There is also a need for the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to outline her plans for industrial investment in the area following these job losses and the loss of 300 jobs in Atlantic Mills in Clondra and the postponement of an investment by Cardinal Healthcare Limited which would have created 1,300 jobs in the locality.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following urgent matter of national importance, namely, the unsatisfactory outcome to the European Union agricultural negotiations which will severely impact on the income of farmers and devastate the dairy industry in particular.

Having considered the matters, they are not in accordance with Standing Order 31.
