Question:

787 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism if there has been progress in relation to the provision of a national stadium further to his recent meeting with representatives of the FAI, IRFU and the GAA; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20807/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 786 and 787 together.

The IRFU and FAI set out their prioritised proposals for stadium development in April, in which they identified five options for meeting their requirement for modern stadium accommodation to host major international fixtures in the greater Dublin area.

This report has been subjected to detailed examination by the Office of Public Works, with advice from private sector construction consultants, Davis Langdon PKS, to ensure that all aspects of the proposal were evaluated. I received the Office of Public Works report earlier this month and I am now reflecting on the issues highlighted in this report in conjunction with the response to the initiative to secure privately funded facilities following which I will present my assessment to Cabinet for decision.

I have not had formal meetings recently with any of the sports bodies on this matter but will revert to them as soon as I have direction from the Government.
