Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Palliative Care Services.

Michael Ring

Question:

893 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the position with regard to the hospice unit in Castlebar, County Mayo; and if a doctor has been appointed to date. [20119/03]

I advise the Deputy that the provision of health services in County Mayo is a matter for the Western Health Board. My Department has made inquiries of the board in relation to the hospice unit in Castlebar, County Mayo. The board has advised that the recruitment of a doctor for the hospice unit in Mayo is being dealt with through Mayo General Hospital. My Department has been informed that the matter is currently with Comhairle na nOspidéal and that the board is awaiting confirmation to proceed with the recruitment process.
