Vol. 571 No. 4

Written Answers. - Prisoner Transfers.

Jack Wall

Question:

478 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if a person (details supplied) presently an inmate at Cork Prison will be considered for a transfer to a prison nearer home; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22008/03]

As I outlined in a response to a previous parliamentary question, I had authorised this prisoner's transfer to the Midlands Prison. However, the transfer did not take place for operational reasons. I can tell the Deputy that, in September 2003, I authorised his transfer from Cork Prison to Wheatfield Prison to facilitate family visits. This transfer took place on 2 October 2003.
