Vol. 572 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Funding.

Michael Ring

Question:

230 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance the help, support and funding which will be given to the people of north Mayo from the Office of Public Works; if the funding is for infrastructure, the loss of personal property or for housing and so on; and the nature of the assistance which will be given. [22857/03]

I refer the Deputy to the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government's replies to the Deputy's Parliamentary Questions Nos. 1316 and 1317 on 30 September 2003 and also to the Minister's speech on the Adjournment Debate on the same date which outlined the position in regard to repair of infrastructure and assistance to those who have suffered hardship or damage arising out of the landslides which occurred in north Mayo on the night of 19 September 2003. In response to a request from Mayo County Council, the Office of Public Works has provided machinery and personnel to assist the county council in the initial clean-up of mud and debris. I understand a detailed work programme is now being prepared by the county council. A further request to Office of Public Works for similar assistance will be given favourable consideration.
