Vol. 572 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Seán Crowe

Question:

288 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Education and Science his Department's position on purchasing the land adjacent to Gaelscoil na Camóige, Áras Chrónain, Bóthar an Úlloird, in order for the school to expand and meet the demands being put on it; if inspections of this land by officials from his Department have taken place recently; and when a decision can be expected from his Department on the matter. [23000/03]

The property management section of the Office of Public Works has submitted a report to my Department on the issue of site acquisition for Gaelscoil na Camóige. Due to the commercial sensitivity of the process involved, it would be inappropriate for me to comment on any individual aspect of the report at this time. However, the report is being considered in the school planning section in the context of framing the capital programme for 2004. Any decision to proceed with a purchase will be dependent on the financial allocation for 2004 and subsequent years and the competing priorities for that funding. In the meantime, my Department will continue to provide grant aid for the use of temporary accommodation by the school at a rate of 95% of the cost.
