Vol. 572 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

292 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science the position on the new national school at Ballygarvan, County Cork, and the acquisition of a site therefor; and when it is expected that the project will be completed. [23156/03]

The site for the proposed new school at Ballygarvan is one of a number which my Department has asked the property management section of the Office of Public Works to process. This means it is to examine all possible sites for the proposed new school and report on findings to the school planning section of my Department.

The purchase of a site and the matter of when individual projects may progress to architectural planning will depend on the budgetary provision for 2004 and subsequent years, the rate of progress of existing projects in architectural planning and the priority afforded to each project by reference to the published criteria for prioritising large-scale building projects. The annual school building programme will outline details of projects for which funding is to be made available.
