Vol. 572 No. 3

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants.

Mary Upton

Question:

310 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education and Science if an application for support to attend an education course will be considered for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12. [23287/03]

Under the free fees initiative, my Department meets the tuition fees of eligible students who are attending approved full-time undergraduate courses, which must be of at least two years' duration, at approved institutions.

Under the terms of my Department's third level maintenance grant schemes, students who are entering approved courses for the first time are eligible for grant assistance where they satisfy the relevant conditions as to age, residence, means, nationality and previous academic attainment.

The institution, referred to by the Deputy, is not an approved institution for the purposes of my Department's student support schemes and, accordingly, students attending courses there are not eligible for grant assistance under the terms of those schemes.

Question No. 311 answered with Question No. 273.
