Vol. 572 No. 3

Written Answers. - Public Transport.

Eamon Ryan

Question:

429 Mr. Eamon Ryan asked the Minister for Transport the reason the proposed new QBC corridor on the N31 is to be introduced in two stages with the road sections within the Dublin City Council area reportedly due to be completed significantly ahead of the road sections in the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council area. [23394/03]

Mount Merrion Avenue lies entirely within the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council area. A bus priority is being installed on the avenue to link Blackrock village and DART station with the N11.

A QBC, the Blackrock QBC, is proposed for an adjacent route on the R118 Rock Road-Merrion Road, and will operate within the functional areas of Dublin City Council, DCC, and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, DLRCC, areas. Both elements of this QBC are currently programmed by the quality bus network, QBN, project office to commence construction in the third quarter of 2004, with completion of the DCC section of the QBC by the first quarter of 2005, and the DLRCC section of the QBC by second quarter of 2005.
