Vol. 572 No. 6

Written Answers. - Young People's Facilities and Services Fund.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

151 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the amount his Department has spent through the young people's services and facilities fund to date; the projects on which it has been spent; and if he will make a statement on the progress to date. [24130/03]

As the Deputy is aware, the young people's facilities and services fund was established in 1998 to assist in the development of facilities – including sport and recreational facilities – and services in disadvantaged areas where there is a significant drug problem or has the potential to develop. Overall responsibility for managing the fund transferred to my Department in January 2003. To date, just over €59 million has been allocated under the fund to approximately 350 projects. I will arrange for a breakdown of that expenditure to be forwarded to the Deputy in the near future.
