Vol. 573 No. 1

Written Answers. - Work Permits.

Dan Boyle

Question:

138 Mr. Boyle asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of current valid work permits issued to Filipino males with married partners already working here; the number refused such permits; and the number still awaiting decision. [24555/03]

I am informed that the work permit section has no information in regard to the employment status of the spouses of persons for whom work permits are sought. If a spouse of someone already working on foot of a work permit finds work in an eligible category, a work permit can be granted. While permits have been granted in respect of Filipinos who happen to have spouses working here, the Department has no need to seek or retain such statistical information.
