Vol. 573 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Designation Schemes.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

153 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Finance his plans to provide tax designation for a defined area of Ballinasloe town to kick start economic development; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24405/03]

In budget 2003 I confirmed the termination dates for a range of area based tax designation schemes, including the urban renewal, rural renewal and town renewal schemes. This announcement was made in the context of the general policy of broadening the tax base in order to retain the current low rates of income, capital gains and corporate taxation. In this context, there are no plans at present to provide for extensions to the areas designated under the urban renewal scheme or any of the area based schemes.
