Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

627 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the way in which it has transpired that persons (details supplied) in Dublin 7 have now been deemed in need of rehousing but not homeless which affects their priority rating; the way in which the determination of decisions of their status was arrived at in view of the fact that the reasons for homelessness previously still prevail; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24817/03]

Responsibility for allocating local authority housing to individual applicants is assigned to the local authority concerned, acting in accordance with the statutory scheme of letting priorities made by the local authority. While the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government exercises the function of approving overall schemes, the Minister is legally precluded from involvement in the administration of individual cases. Issues regarding such individual cases may therefore be more appropriately raised with the local authority concerned.
