Question:

689 Mr. P. Breen asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government if funding will be made available for the Ennis inner relief road to cater for the town centre congestion; the correspondence which has been entered into with the Ennis town manager in relation to same; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25360/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 664 and 689 together.

In July my Department invited applications from local authorities for funding under the EU co-financed specific improvement grants scheme in 2004. On 17 September my Department received a submission from Clare County Council. It did not include an application for funding for the Ennis inner relief road. There has been informal contact between the local authority and my Department regarding the need for such a road. The council may designate this scheme as a priority for EU co-financing in 2004.
