Vol. 573 No. 5

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Seán Power

Question:

120 Mr. S. Power asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason a special needs assistant has not been appointed for a person (details supplied) attending school in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25949/03]

On 10 September 2003, my Department approved the transfer of three hours resource teaching support from the pupil's former school to his present school. My Department has no record of receiving an application for special needs assistant support. My Department's Circular 24/03 requires schools to take full account of the resources they already have before applying for more. My officials will liaise with the school in question concerning the pupil's special educational needs.
