Vol. 574 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Curriculum.

Mary Upton

Question:

148 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education and Science the nature and extent of the consultation under way on developing senior cycle education, following the report of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26485/03]

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment, NCCA, was established as a statutory body in July 2001. Its brief, as stated in the Education Act 1998, is to advise the Minister for Education and Science in matters regarding the curriculum for early childhood education, primary and post-primary schools, and the assessment procedures employed in schools and examinations on subjects that are part of the curriculum.

The consultation process in question is a matter for the NCCA. Accordingly, I have passed the Deputy's query to the chief executive officer of the NCCA for direct reply.

Question No. 149 answered with Question No. 146.
