Vol. 574 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tribunals of Inquiry.

John McGuinness

Question:

134 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Finance the amounts of money which were recovered by the State in relation to the beef tribunal, Mahon tribunal and Moriarty tribunal; if there are moneys outstanding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27010/03]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that as a result of investigations of matters which emerged during the course of these Tribunals and which related to underpayments of tax the following amounts have been recovered by Revenue and the Criminal Assets Bureau.

€m

Beef Tribunal

5.406

Moriarty Tribunal

6.910

Flood/Mahon Tribunal

35.715

I am also informed by the Revenue Commissioners that their enquiries are ongoing in relation to matters which have arisen in the course of the Moriarty and Flood-Mahon tribunals. Consequently further recoveries are likely to arise.
As regards the beef tribunal, the question of recovery of money related to the various market support schemes would be a matter primarily for the Minister for Agriculture and Food.
