Vol. 575 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Code.

David Stanton

Question:

102 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Finance the extra amount collected to date due to the increase in duty on alcopops in budget 2003; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27897/03]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the excise collected on alcopops up to end-October 2002 was €7.95 million. The amount collected up to end-October 2003 is €16.4 million; an increase of €8.45 million on the corresponding period last year.

The 2003 budget increase almost doubled the excise duty content on a 275 ml bottle of alcopop, that is, lower strength spirit-based drink with less than a 5.5% alcohol content, from 30 cent to over 59 cent.

Question No. 103 answered with Question No. 101.
