Vol. 575 No. 3

Written Answers. - Crime Levels.

Finian McGrath

Question:

276 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of crimes and robberies in the Charlemont, Beresford and Griffith Avenue, Dublin 9, areas over the past year; the number of persons charged or arrested for these crimes; the number that are drugs related; and the nature of the Garda response to these issues. [28072/03]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that 32 incidents were recorded in the area in question over the past year. These are as follows:

Type

Committed

Burglary

5

Theft from MPV

7

Theft from Person

2

Unauthorised Taking of MPV

3

Criminal Damage

7

Public Order

8

The above figures are provisional and are subject to verification. Twelve persons have been arrested and charged in connection with these crimes. I am informed by the Garda authorities that it is not possible to specify if any of these crimes were directly drug-related without expending an inordinate amount of Garda time and resources that could not be justified.
The area in question is regularly patrolled by uniform and plain clothes gardaí from Whitehall and Clontarf stations, augmented by personnel from the divisional task force and traffic unit where necessary.
