Vol. 576 No. 2

Written Answers. - Medical Cards.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

170 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason the SouthWestern Area Health Board annually withdraws the medical card from a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12 who is blind, has to wear a kidney bag, is a diabetic and has epilepsy; and if he will direct it to renew the card on medical grounds without delay. [29511/03]

Responsibility for the provision of a medical card is, by legislation, a matter for the chief executive officer of the relevant health board or authority. My Department has therefore asked the chief executive of the Eastern Regional Health Authority to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply to him directly.
