Question:

180 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason medical card patients such as a person (details supplied) in Dublin 9 are charged for genetic testing in the Mater Hospital's centre for liver disease, if his attention has been drawn to the fact that medical card patients are being charged ?80 for such testing; the reason this centre receives no funding; if he will take immediate steps to ensure that medical card patients are provided with this service free of charge; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Responsibility for the provision of services for medical card holders rests with the chief executive officer of the relevant health board-authority. Accordingly, this matter has been referred to the regional chief executive of the ERHA for investigation and direct reply to the Deputy.
