Vol. 576 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

85 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the need for a full-time special needs assistant in St. Joseph's National School, Convent of Mercy, Clonakilty, County Cork; and if he will arrange to sanction same. [29631/03]

I am aware of the case referred to by the Deputy. An application for special needs assistant support was considered by the National Educational Psychological Service. My Department subsequently sanctioned 23 hours 20 minutes per week SNA support on 21 August 2003 for the pupil in question. The school has since confirmed its acceptance of this arrangement.
