Vol. 576 No. 5

Written Answers. - Public Private Partnerships.

Olwyn Enright

Question:

218 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Finance if he has reached a resolution to his discussions with EUROSTAT in relation to the use of public private partnerships for primary and post-primary school building projects; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30045/03]

The accounting treatment of public private partnerships for general Government balance purposes is the responsibility of EUROSTAT, an independent European Commission agency. Based on the work of a task force of experts, EUROSTAT is finalising updated guidelines on the GGB treatment of PPP projects. A final decision is expected in January 2004. It will then be the responsibility of the CSO to implement these guidelines in Ireland.
