Vol. 576 No. 5

Written Answers. - Physical Education Facilities.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

263 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science when funding will be made available for the provision of changing or dressing room and gym facilities urgently needed at St. Conleth's vocational school, Station Road, Newbridge, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29813/03]

County Kildare Vocational Education Committee has submitted an application to my Department for the provision of a PE hall at St. Conleth's vocational school, Newbridge, County Kildare. My Department is preparing PE hall templates to standardise the construction of PE halls at second level schools. These templates will be piloted in four schools initially. Implementation of the templates is being considered in the context of the capital programme for 2004 against all other competing priorities for the funding available. The matter of providing a PE hall at St. Conleth's vocational school will be considered when the pilot programme has been completed and evaluated.
