Vol. 576 No. 5

Written Answers. - Teachers' Remuneration.

Richard Bruton

Question:

264 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has given consideration to the introduction of a Dublin weight of payment for teachers who work in schools and other educational facilities in the Dublin area; if he has had discussions with teachers unions, to look at the potential of such a proposal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29834/03]

The pay and conditions of service of teachers is a matter for the Teachers Conciliation Council. The council comprises representatives of the managerial authorities of schools, teacher unions and the Departments of Education and Science and Finance. There are no proposals to introduce a Dublin weight of payment for teachers who work in schools and other educational facilities in the Dublin area before the Council. Any such proposal would have to be viewed in the context of the Sustaining Progress agreement, Government pay policy and its implications for the wider public sector.
