Vol. 576 No. 6

Written Answers. - FÁS Training Programmes.

Phil Hogan

Question:

95 Mr. Hogan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will publish the FÁS review documents arising from the recent study of schemes; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [30229/03]

A number of reviews of community employment, CE, are currently under way. The PPF provided for an overall appraisal of active labour market programmes, ALMPs, to be carried out and this work is being undertaken under the aegis of the standing committee on the labour market, which is chaired by my Department. Indecon international economic consultants were commissioned by my Department on behalf of the standing committee to facilitate a rigorous assessment of the overall effectiveness of existing programmes, and to help inform the deliberations of the standing committee. The consultants' report was finalised and brought to the standing committee in November 2002. The standing committee is due to complete its work on the overall appraisal of ALMPs very shortly. The FÁS review of CE and the job initiative programme is also nearing completion and will be published. The reports in question will be published upon completion of the review process.
