I propose to take Questions Nos. 231 to 234, inclusive, together.

The approximate numbers and new locations of the Department of Transport division and the relevant agencies to be decentralised are set out in table 3 of Part IV of the Summary of 2004 Budget Measures. This is also available at www.budget.gov.ie/2004/budmeasu04.aspA wide range of factors was taken into account and balanced against each other in selecting the areas for decentralisation and in determining the new locations. While consultations to date on decentralisation have been of a general nature, I am now establishing a specific group, chaired by an assistant secretary within my Department and including representatives of each unit or agency involved, to implement this decision. Many of the detailed questions raised by the Deputy will fall to that group to consider and address in partnership with those involved. However, by way of illustration, the breakdown of grades in the road haulage division of the Department is as follows:

Division

Grade

Number(current no.of posts)

Road Haulage

Principal Officer

1

Assistant Principal

2

Higher Executive Officer

3

Executive Officer

7

Staff Officer

1

Transport Officer

18

Clerical Officer

10

Total

42

The estimated total payroll costs per annum for this division are approximately €1.5 million and the office space required is approximately 800 square metres.
