Vol. 577 No. 1

Written Answers. - Fishing Vessel Licences.

David Stanton

Question:

167 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cork has never been granted a full licence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30640/03]

The individual concerned received a sea fishing boat licence for his boat under a special scheme introduced a number of years ago for the regulation of unlicensed and unregistered vessels in the fishing fleet. A licence was issued on a short-term basis pending registration of the vessel, as was customary under the scheme. The registration process was not completed due to an outstanding procedural issue relating to the tonnage measurement of the vessel. The independent statutory licensing authority established last July has reviewed this case in light of current licensing and registration policy and procedures and has decided to now register the vessel and has issued a standard licence to the individual concerned.
