176 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when an application for permission to remain here on the basis of marriage to an Irish national by a person (details supplied) will be dealt with; if same will be expedited; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31834/03]

The person made an asylum application in the State on 16 November 1999. His application was refused on 14 November 2001 and his appeal against the decision was also refused on 28 March 2003. He underwent a marriage ceremony with an Irish national on 28 June 2002 and applied for residency on 18 July 2002. Having regard to the details peculiar to the case his application was refused. He was notified of the decision on 20 November 2003.
