Vol. 577 No. 5

Written Answers. - Prisoner Transfers.

Aengus Ó Snodaigh

Question:

177 Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will request the governor of Castlerea Prison to consider transferring a person (details supplied) to the houses inside the prison or to one of the more open prisons in the State to allow him to complete his sentence and rehabilitation, in recognition of time spent in jail and good behaviour. [31835/03]

The person is serving cumulative sentences totalling eight years imprisonment for a number of robbery offences and is due for release on 19 August 2006. He was transferred to Castlerea Prison on 6 June 2003.

The Director General of the Prison Service has informed me that the prisoner has not applied for a transfer to either the Grove area of Castlerea Prison or to another prison institution. Should such an application be made it would be considered in the normal manner.
