Vol. 1039 No. 6

Visit of Cypriot Delegation

Before we go to our next speaker, I wish to extend a céad mile fáilte, a hundred thousand welcomes, to the President of the Parliament of Cyprus, Ms Annita Demetriou. She has been visiting us with a delegation over the last few days. She is joined by someone well known to us all. Her Excellency is accompanied by H.E. Ms Charis Christodoulidou, who has served as ambassador for a number of years and who will leave us shortly.

We speak a lot in this Chamber about the desirability of having more women involved in politics and more young people. The people of Cyprus have not only spoken about it but they have done something about it in electing Ms Demetriou who is the youngest speaker of any parliament in the world. It is a privilege to have her here today. You are welcome, my friend.
