Vol. 1041 No. 2

Minute's Silence to Commemorate the Victims of the War in Ukraine

Before proceeding to Questions on Policy or Legislation, I remind the House that today is the 491st day of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. In recent weeks we have seen such atrocities as the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, resulting in a massive human and environmental cost, and the attack on a restaurant in Kramatorsk which led to the death of 12 people, including four children. Tens of thousands of lives have already been lost in this war and the speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, has written to ask that we reaffirm our support for the Ukrainian people in the face of this onslaught. Accordingly, I ask Members to stand for a minute's silence to commemorate those whose lives have been lost and to restate our solidarity with Ukraine in the face of this dreadful conflict.

Members rose.

May they rest in peace.
