JOINT COMMITTEE ON AGRICULTURE AND FOOD debate -
Wednesday, 5 Jul 2006

Business of Joint Committee.

I remind members and witnesses to ensure their mobile telephones are switched off and not left on vibration mode as this can affect the broadcasting system.

Are the minutes of the meeting of 21 June 2006 as circulated agreed? Agreed.

I welcome Mr. John Bryan, chairman, Mr. Michael Lynch, vice chairman and Mr. Kevin Kinsella, director, IFA National Livestock who attend today to update members on the IFA's recent visit to Brazil and to report on livestock production and standards there. I understand Mr. Bryan will make a PowerPoint presentation.

Before inviting Mr. Bryan to make his presentation I draw witnesses attention to the fact that while members of this committee have absolute privilege, this same privilege does not extend to witnesses. Members are reminded of the long-standing parliamentary practice to the effect that they should not comment on, criticise or make charges against a person outside the House or an official by name in such a way as to make him or her identifiable.
