JOINT COMMITTEE ON ENTERPRISE AND SMALL BUSINESS debate -
Wednesday, 2 Mar 2005

Business of Joint Committee.

I wish to turn to item 5 on the agenda because Deputy Nolan has raised it. A copy of the presentation made by Mr. David Dilger, chief executive officer of Greencore Group plc to the meeting of the Joint Committee on Agriculture and Food has been circulated. I understand the joint committee meeting was quite comprehensive.

At a previous meeting of the joint committee, I raised the possibility of inviting Greencore to a committee meeting. Subsequently, the Joint Committee on Agriculture and Food held a meeting with the Minister for Agriculture and Food and a separate meeting with Mr. Dilger from Greencore. It would be a duplication of effort to invite them before us. All the necessary issues were dealt with at the Joint Committee on Agriculture and Food. There is no need to keep the proposal on the agenda.

I understand it was a five-hour meeting. Does the Deputy wish to leave the issue to the Joint Committee on Agriculture and Food?

This committee does not need to go down the same road.

Is that agreed? Agreed.

It would be nice to get a synopsis of the proceedings of the meeting of the Joint Committee on Agriculture and Food.

The presentation has been circulated.

Is it in it?

The presentation was circulated yesterday. Apologies for circulating it so close to this meeting. Part two of item 5 on the agenda pertains to a report from the Competition Authority. The clerk to the joint committee has obtained a copy of the preliminary report by the Competition Authority on competition in the legal profession. It is available, should any member wish to receive a copy and is also in the Oireachtas Library. It has been laid before the Houses, but if any member of the committee wishes to get a copy, he or she should contact the clerk.
