JOINT COMMITTEE ON FINANCE AND THE PUBLIC SERVICE debate -
Wednesday, 6 Oct 2004

Business of Joint Committee.

I have been asked to convene a special meeting of the select committee for Wednesday, 13 October. I understand that the Minister for Finance will seek approval in the Dáil for two Estimates to provide funding for the Public Appointments Service and the Commissioner for Public Service Appointments, the new bodies that will replace the Civil Service and Local Appointments Commission. It is anticipated that those Estimates will be referred to the committee for consideration in time for those bodies to be established the week after next. The next meeting of the joint committee will take place on Tuesday, 19 October when the chairman and CEO of AIB will attend.

At what time are the Estimates expected to be dealt with on 13 October?

We will have to check.

What time is the Chairman proposing?

We are proposing 3 p.m. The clerk will contact the Deputy directly on the matter.

I believe the Minister's questions have been moved to Thursday.

I do not believe so. I understand the Estimate is a token Estimate and that no new moneys will be involved.

Why not have the meeting at 9.30 a.m.?

We will inform the Deputy of the time when we have checked the time of the Minister's questions in the Dáil.

The joint committee adjourned at 2.50 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, 19 October 2004.
