JOINT COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN AFFAIRS debate -
Tuesday, 10 May 2005

Business of Joint Committee.

We received apologies from Deputy Michael D. Higgins but we are delighted he is here and is making progress.

I thank the Chairman for his letter on behalf of the members.

We wish you a full and speedy recovery.

The minutes of the meeting of 26 April have been circulated. Are the minutes agreed? Agreed. Are there any matters arising?

Regarding the discussion we were to have on the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, some members are back from the conference in New York and were not present for the Minister's speech. Could we have an update on when the Minister might be invited here to talk about nuclear non-proliferation, as was promised?

Was that not in New York?

We need the Minister to attend a meeting of the committee.

Who was in New York?

Deputies Allen and Michael D. Higgins.

The conference finishes on 22 May, so it will be some time after that.

The delegates who went there will be doing a report also.
