Joint Committee on the Secondary Legislation of the European Communities debate -
Friday, 3 Aug 1973

Election of Vice-Chairman.

Chairman

Standing Order No. 113 (5) states:

If the Chairman of the Standing Joint Committee be absent from a meeting of the Committee on a Bill the Chair shall be taken by such Member of the Committee as the Committee may choose.

That does not matter because any group can do that. There is a fairly widespread wish that we should have a vice-chairman.

I move: " That Deputy M. Dockrell be appointed vice-chairman." He was involved in the inauguration of the committee.

Chairman

I believe that would be a very popular appointment.

Question put and agreed to.

Mr. Chairman, Senator Robinson, Senators and Deputies, I accept the position of vice-Chairman on condition our Chairman goes easy when he gets on the back of a horse.
