Vol. 1 No. 22

ADJOURNMENT OF SEANAD.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

That concludes the business on the Orders of the Day, and with reference to our next meeting I should mention that up to the present there is no prospect of any business being available for next week. Consequently we shall not meet next week unless something happens in the meantime, in which case I will see that Senators get proper notice. As I understand the calendar, the week after that is Whitsuntide, so that it is unlikely there will be any business that week either. That probably means that the Seanad will not now meet until Wednesday three weeks. Of course, that is subject always to any business of importance requiring to be attended to from the Dáil, or to anything that occurs in the interval, which might make it desirable for the Seanad to meet. If so, I shall have the members summoned with proper notice.

I suggest that it is not always necessary to wait for business from the Dáil. We might have business of our own. With this question of war and peace coming on anything might occur.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

I said other business that might arise.

Do you not think it is almost certain that such business will arise next week?

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

I am not as sanguine as you are about that.

I think you will find that someone will have a motion down about this matter.

The document circulated to members of the Seanad to-day is one that was issued in the Dáil. It is a statement made by the President, and was issued in order to give Senators an opportunity of knowing the substance of the proposals. I thought it would be of interest to members to have it. It is not the statement I made, but it contained the proposals of both sides.

I move the adjournment of the Seanad.

Agreed.

The Seanad adjourned at 5.20 p.m.
