Vol. 1 No. 32

LAND TRUST POWERS BILL, 1923. - THE STANDING ORDERS.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

There is a matter which is not upon the Orders of the Day to which I wish to direct the attention of the Seanad. The Standing Orders Committee have practically completed their labours, but on the last occasion that the report was up it was recommended that words be introduced which would make it necessary that each stage of a Bill should have its own separate day. The Committee have since met and they have unanimously agreed to recommend that change. That is the only change that stands in the way of having the Standing Orders printed, and, with the appendix, which is ready, circulated amongst the members. Therefore, I think it would be desirable for us to put that report through to-day.

It is simply a report from the Standing Orders Committee accepting the reference back from the Seanad to insert the words I have mentioned, namely that there should be a separate day for every stage of a Bill.

That will not preclude the suspension of the Standing Orders, if necessary?

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

No.

I beg formally to move the suspension of the Standing Orders.

I second that.

Agreed.

I beg to move the adoption of the Standing Orders as printed and circulated.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

The House understands they are precisely in the same form as when they approved of them on the last day they met, save that the Committee have since met and adopted the recommendation made by the Seanad to introduce the one change I have mentioned. The Committee are all now agreed that is a good change, and the only thing that now remains is for the Seanad to adopt their report.

I beg to second that.

Agreed.
