CORONERS BILL.

CATHAOIRLEACH

It will be within the recollection of the Seanad that last year a private Bill, introduced by Senator De Loughry and dealing with the position of coroners, was given a Second Reading, and it was referred to a Select Committee. The Committee has not since met, but they feel that it is time that they should dispose of their duties in regard to it. Accordingly, they propose to meet at a very early date. There was no express power conferred upon them by the Seanad to examine witnesses. Several important individuals have offered to give evidence if asked to come. Therefore, I would ask the Seanad to give permission to this Committee to call such witnesses as they think necessary.

Question—"That the Seanad give power to the Select Committee appointed to deal with the Coroners Bill, to call witnesses"—put and agreed to.
