Vol. 12 No. 9

Censorship of Publications Bill, 1928.

Cathaoirleach

The Minister in charge of this Bill has to be in the other House in connection with the Juries Protection Bill, 1929, and I think it would be better to adjourn consideration of it for his attendance.

Is there any urgency for this Bill, or any reason why it should not be postponed for three months, a month, or any time at all?

Cathaoirleach

Would not a week do? I am in the hands of the House.

I would like to ask for information regarding the amendments to this Bill. There are a number of amendments on the Paper, but they relate to the Bill in the form in which it reached us. They are rather out of place now, as the Bill has been amended in Committee. Will it be in order to put down fresh amendments now? I proposed to alter some amendments of my own but was told that it was not intended to print the amendments again.

Cathaoirleach

I would like to see the amendments. It is hardly a desirable course.

The amendments are really changes in the form of the original amendments. When a suggestion like that was made before it was mentioned that they could be put off until the Report Stage.

Cathaoirleach

Would you not do that?

That would mean that there would be only one discussion on some amendments.

Cathaoirleach

I think, under the circumstances, I will let you hand in the amendments, and they will appear on the paper.
