Vol. 16 No. 16

Public Business. - Suspension of Standing Orders.

I move:

That notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in Standing Orders 79 (1) and 85, the Committee Stage and Report Stage of the Dairy Produce (Price Stabilisation) Bill, 1933, be taken to-day.

I understand the Minister does not desire to keep this Bill in cold storage during the Recess but that he would like it to go through all Stages to-day.

I beg to second the motion. It is very important that we should pass the Bill without delay because, as Senator Mrs. Costello pointed out, the market is already anticipating its passage.

I think what Senator Dowdall has said is true. There is a hope amongst the holders of butter that prices are going to be higher than we intend they should be, and that is the reason why prices are going up more than they should in the last few days.

Question put and agreed to.
