Vol. 39 No. 2

MacSwiney (Pension) Bill, 1950 (Certified Money Bill)—Second and Subsequent Stages.

Question proposed: "That the Bill be now read a Second Time."

I do not think it is necessary to say anything about the Bill. The meaning of the Bill is there written within a very short section. The circumstances that make it necessary are that the financial circumstances of this lady changed very much since 1924. If she had desired in 1924 to get anything from the State there was an Act that gave it to her on the evidence of her marriage certificate. She did not apply at the time, and she cannot apply under that Act now. She made application to the Government, and the result is the present Bill now before the House.

I should like to ask the Minister if the recommendations will be perfectly satisfactory for Mrs. MacSwiney.

I have information to that effect.

Question put and agreed to.
Agreed to take the remaining stages to-day.
Bill put through Committee, received for final consideration, and ordered to be returned to the Dáil.
