Vol. 44 No. 1

Question of Privilege.

Senator O'Donnell on a question of privilege.

On a question of privilege I should like to refer to the fact that there is an empty seat beside me which ought to be occupied by Senator Liam Kelly who was elected a member of this House. Due to reasons which he cannot control, he is unable to be present to sign the Roll of the House. I am asking the permission of the House to authorise the clerk to take whatever steps he sees fit to make the roll available to Senator Liam Kelly for signature. I understand that the roll can be made available under the Standing Orders of the House. I should be glad to know if the House would meet with my request and do something about the matter.

Under Standing Order No. 61 the custody of all papers belonging to the House rests with the Clerk of the House. He may not remove them from the chamber or offices without the express leave of the Seanad. I think leave could be given to the clerk to take such steps as he may be able to enable Senator Liam Kelly to sign the roll. That would be agreed to.

We agree.

Agreed.
