Vol. 68 No. 3

Gaming and Lotteries Bill, 1969: Committee and Final Stages.

Bill put through Committee, reported without amendment and received for final consideration.
Question proposed: "That the Bill do now pass".

I am wondering whether it is necessary or desirable to have a consequential amendment to deal with subsection (1) (c) section 4 of the 1956 Act because there is a reference there to slot machines not prohibited by section 10?

I adverted to this point and I made the fullest inquiries about it. I am told the effect of the Bill we are now considering will be to obliterate altogether this reference to section 10 in paragraph (c).

Without specifically repealing it?

Yes. I am told the better drafting procedure is not specifically to repeal this and the two other references to section 10 made in sections 37 and 42 at this stage but to do it in a consolidating Bill, and as Members of the Seanad know, my predecessor mentioned in the Dáil that it was his intention to bring in a Bill of that nature at the earliest possible opportunity.

Question put and agreed to.
