Vol. 71 No. 1

Landlord and Tenant (Amendment) Bill, 1971: First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to amend the law relating to reversionary leases and, in particular, to extend, with effect in certain circumstances from the 3rd day of March, 1970, rights under that law to a club or organisation using land for outdoor recreational purposes, to amend in other respects the law of landlord and tenant and to provide for other matters connected with the matters aforesaid.
— (Tomás Ó Maoláin).

Could Senator Ó Maoláin tell us what is in this Bill?

The provisions are summarised in the note on the Order Paper. It will be circulated tomorrow evening.

It is not unusual for the type of legislation. Is this something new? Or is it a sign of the times?

Unless the Senator wishes to oppose the First Reading, no statement may be made.

I should be reluctant to oppose the First Reading. The only purpose would be to elicit a full statement from the Leader of the House as to what is in the Bill. As he has assured us that it will be circulated tomorrow, I am satisfied.

Second Stage ordered for first sitting day after the recess.
