Vol. 79 No. 6

Addition to Order of Business.

I move:

That the Broadcasting Authority (Amendment) Bill, 1975, First Stage, be added to the Order of Business.

Having considered the matter I have authorised the circulation of the additional matter, which in fact adds it to the Order Paper, and accordingly the House may proceed to discuss the question of the introduction of the Bill.

I am sure that in the light of our discussion earlier this afternoon, the House will welcome the fact that this Bill has been introduced here and that we have been able to give it a First Reading today. This must be welcome to those Senators Fáil and also with Senator Horgan, and there is agreement.

Business suspended at 6.01 p.m. and resumed at 7.30 p.m.

I have to inform the House that a letter dated 11 February, 1975 has been received from the Secretary to the Department of the Taoiseach stating:

(1) that Deputy John Kelly, Parliamentary Secretary to the Taoiseach has resigned his office as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence and has been appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Foreign Affairs;

(2) that Deputy Michael Begley, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Local Government, has been appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence; and

(3) that Deputy John Bruton, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Education has been appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Industry and Commerce.

I have given directions to have a copy of the letter referred to set out in extenso in the usual manner in the Journal of the House. Consequent on this announcement, it will also be printed in the Official Report of the Debates.

who wants to see this House performing a more active function in the Legislature, and not only do we welcome it on the Order of Business but, I am sure, will give it a First Reading without any obstruction.

Agreed and ordered accordingly.
