Vol. 98 No. 12

Statement by Cathaoirleach.

Before we go on to the Order of Business, I would like to say a few words because at a later stage when we will be announcing the Adjournment of the House for the Recess, some of my colleagues may have left the Chamber.

In my judgment it would never be out of order for me to express my gratitude and thanks to all Senators in this House for their help and kindness to me as Cathaoirleach in my first session of my five year term of office. I would like also to thank Mr. Tobin and Mr. Geoghegan, the senior Ministers and the Ministers of State, the press, and all the staff of the House for their courtesy to me at all times.

I would like to add that we will be going into recess until October and that will be noted with great publicity, but I would like to point out that Senators go on serving even during the recess. Therefore I would advise everybody here to take two weeks leave and try to get away from it all, as they say, with their families, because they pay a high price too, for serving and backing us up. I thank you sincerely and I hope to see you in the autumn.
