Vol. 108 No. 5

Business of Seanad.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

Could I ask the Leader of the House to clear up the situation as regards further business now?

On the Order of Business this afternoon, I suggested we might be flexible and I suggested that if we were moving briskly enough we should suspend the sitting from 5.30 to 6.30. I do not want to indicate that I think that we have not been moving briskly enough — the House has been doing a good job in legislation this afternoon but nevertheless, Senators will recall that there was an appeal that the House should take the motion proposing to annul a statutory instrument and I indicated that I would endeavour to fit this in. As Senators are aware, we are taking the Finance Bill next week, which might make it more difficult to take this motion then. I suggest that the House continues until 5.30 p.m. with the Combat Poverty Bill in Committee and I would ask that the House sacrifice the suspension from 5.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. in order to devote this time to the discussion of the motion on the social welfare regulation.

Agreed.
